What we’re most excited about at Ouseburn Festival 2023

Ouseburn Woodland Takeover

Both Saturday and Sunday will see Ouseburn’s green spaces filled with magical, intimate performances and activities. You’ll find everything from circus skills and lively live performers to movement workshops and a buskers stage at a tree stump! Drop in on the pottery workshop, or learn to make your own willow bird feeder.

The acts and workshops have been programmed by Skimstone Arts, an organisation based at Newbridge Project who help showcase artists from underrepresented backgrounds.

Ouseburn Festival Presents NARC. Fest

NARC. Fest is an absolute staple of the North East music calendar! After a long hiatus, it’s back with an incredible line-up, all in collaboration with Ouseburn Festival!

Get Together Ouseburn

The first-ever Get Together Ouseburn is happening alongside this year’s Festival, taking over Ballast Hills and bringing a line-up of live music, DJs, food stalls and creative stalls. This is going to be an incredible addition to the Festival experience. Get Together is ran and organised by the team at World Headquarters and Miso Newcastle.

Boat trips

Ouseburn Festival boat trips are firm favourite among previous years’ visitors. The Newcastle Motorboat Club offer their time and boats for free and takes visitors for a very special trip along the Tyne, starting at the mouth of the Ouseburn. Due to a reliance on tides, boat trips will run 11am – 3pm. Visitors are advised to expect queues.

Family fun

(that grown-ups will also love!)

There’s so much going on for the whole family but some highlights include:

  • A giant climbing tower in the heart of Ouseburn, just by the wooden footbridge | 12pm – 6pm
  • Stepney Bank Stable’s Pony Party at their outdoor riding arena at the bottom of City Stadium | 1pm – 3pm
  • Full Circle Fun Run – a 10k on Saturday and a 1k kids run on Sunday | Both start at 12pm at Full Circle Tap Room in Hoults Yard
  • CHALK Wild Weekender at the Toffee Factory. Festival outfit making on Saturday and mythical beast building on Sunday! | 12pm – 4pm

Markets, markets, and more top-notch markets

The Ouseburn Market is back in its usual spot, just off Stepney Bank behind Northern Print. In the Ouseburn Woodland Takeover, you’ll also find a peppering of amazing food vendors to keep you fuelled while you wander around taking everything in. Ouseburn Garden is teaming up with Owt Ya Like to host a varied selection of makers and traders with a great soundtrack, live art, and delicious food. Two By Two Brewery and Spinning Superiority will be hosting a Vinyl and Vintage market on Saturday. To top it all off, you’ll find stall and sellers throughout Ouseburn, including Lime Street which will be pedestrianised during the Festival.

Feeling Creative?

It wouldn’t be Ouseburn Festival without a serious dose of art! Northern Print will be hosting an Inside Out exhibition that you’ll be able to enjoy without stepping into the building! On Saturday, Artist Sarah March will run a lino-cut printing workshop (1pm – 3pm) as part of Newbridge Project’s exhibition The Amazonian Rubber Boom. On Sunday, Chilli Studios are back with their Raku Pottery event in their allotment behind The Cumberland Arms. You’ll be able to buy a handmade piece of pottery, decorate it, and watch it being fired at the end of the day.

See you at Ouseburn Festival!

Ouseburn Festival is free with most activities being completed free too. As there will be a road closure in the centre of the Ouseburn, any visitors coming from further than walking distance are advised to cycle or use public transport. More advice is available on the Ouseburn Trust’s Festival page.
